| CloudStor: Performance Evaluation of On-Demand Provisioning of Data Intensive Applications | |
| The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant to researchers at SDSC to explore new ways to manage extremely large data sets hosted on massive clusters, which have become known as computing “clouds”. This research will use the LiDAR topography data hosted by OpenTopography as a test case and will focus on how cloud computing can aid the management and processing of massive spatial data sets.
The project will study dynamic strategies for provisioning such applications by doing a performance evaluation of alternative approaches for serving very large data sets. The cloud platforms that will be used in the project will be the Google-IBM CluE cluster and the HP-Intel-Yahoo cluster, Open Cirrus Cloud Computing Testbed, at the University of Illinois, both of which have been assemble .... |

| GEON | |
| GEON is an open collaborative project that is developing cyberinfrastructure for integration of 3 and 4 dimensional earth science data.
GEON started as a project funded under the NSF Information Technology Research (ITR) program. The project began as a collaborative research project among a dozen PI institutions, to develop cyberinfrastructure in support of data sharing and integration among the Earth Sciences community. Much of the core GEON cyberinfrastructure is generic and broadly applicable beyond Earth Science and Geosciences. GEON has established many partnerships and relationships with other projects in earth science, archaeology, paleontology, ecology, and environmental science, to earthquake engineering. Several international partnerships have also been established with Japan .... |

| The OpenTopography Portal | |
| The OpenTopography Portal is a GEON Project initiative to build an online system that provides integrated access to high-resolution topography data, web-based processing tools, and enables the user community to share knowledge, experiences and resources, The OpenTopography Portal incorporates the GEON LiDAR Workflow (GLW) system for LiDAR point cloud access and processing and adds mechanisms for access to other data types. The goal of OpenTopography is to provide a portal where access to various public domain airborne and terrestrial LiDAR, bathymetry, and other topographic data can be centralized. They are currently seeking collaborations and partnerships that enable them to make more of these valuable data sets available online.
The OpenTopography Portal is a collaboration between com .... |
