VP & Chief Scientist at Pathwork Diagnostics Inc

Ljubomir Buturovic is Vice President and Chief Scientist at Pathwork Diagnostics. His responsibilities include development of machine learning models for molecular diagnostics tests in oncology, such as the FDA-cleared Pathwork Tissue of Origin Test. Ljubomir introduced distributed processing and Cloud Computing in the development of Pathwork predictive models.

In his early career Ljubomir was a Research Scientist at the Institute of Applied Mathmatics and Electronics, Belgrade, Serbia, performing research on statistical pattern recognition and neural networks. After that he was postdoctoral scientist working with Professor Temple F Smith at Boston University on computational models for protein structure prediction. Prior to joining Pathwork he was the Director of Bioinformatics at Incyte Corporation.

Ljubomir has published research papers in leading peer-reviewed journals, including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Patern Recognition, Journal of Computational Chemistry and Journal of Molecular Diagnostics. His current research interests are focused on applications of machine learning in computational molecular biology, in particular molecular diagnostics.

Ljubomir received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia.
