Cloud computing promises great improvements in agility and cost savings. But real world deployments run into issues of aligning the concept of shared infrastructure (IaaS) with the need to support different line-of-business (LOB) requirements. The answer is not to build cloud silos within your enterprise. Instead, support local ownership and control with open cloud management that enables multi-organizational and hierarchical delegation models. Not only does this provide overall administrative efficiencies, but it also improves adoption, security, utilization, and scaling. Each LOB can self-administer their portion of the cloud with unique business and orchestration policies, reporting, billing, workflow, etc.

  • Marketing Funnel Steps – Align with Sales
  • June 16 2010
Every marketing and sales organization needs a framework to define and align between their organizations.  The hand-off between marketing and sales is fraught with ambiguity at most companies.  Even the definition of what constitutes a ‘lead’ can elicit visceral reactions between teams. At my most recent company, we have spent considerable time gaining better alignment [...] ...

  • How To Run a Successful Webinar / Webcast
  • March 14 2010
90% of webinars are painful.  I’ve been reminded of this fact after recently participating in a virtual conference as well as attending some “Introduction to…” topic webinars.  I typically can surmise the pain level within the first four minutes.  It doesn’t have to be this way.  Webinars are critical weapons within the marketing arsenal with [...] ...

  • March 01 2010
I confess.  My birthday is February 29th and did not have an “official” birthday this year.  Yet, somehow I am a year older.  Instead of making fun of people born on  Leap Year Day, society needs to better understand our predicament and ease our pain.  A government bailout should be made available to ‘Leaplings’ (our [...] ...

  • 10 Reasons to Switch to Gmail

Gmail rocks.  Everyone should use Gmail unless they only have very basic email requirements (i.e., are a baby boomer with limited computer skills and need a highly streamlined user experience).
